YOKOHAMA

Yokohama- największy port morski i jeden z większych ośrodków przemysłowych Japonii. Południowo-wschodnia część wyspy Honsiu, w pobliżu ujścia do morza rzeki Tsurumi- całą nadmorską część centrum zajmują nabrzeża portowe.

Yokohama has all the best of Tokyo (high tech city life) without the worst of Tokyo (overcrowded and smoggy streets). Yokohama has something for everyone.

Yokohama is Japan's 3rd largest city, after Tokyo and Osaka. As the major port on Tokyo Bay, it ships Japanese made goods worldwide. Yokohama is also where Commodore Perry and his fleet landed in the mid-19th century to end Japan's isolation. For me the most noteworthy is Yokohama's Chinatown- the largest of the top world's Chinatowns. Crowded with tourists from all over Japan and the world. Over 200 restaurants, colorful temple Kantei-byo, thousand of shops. And besides the atmosphere, unique trademark food- alternative for all the go hamburgers- STEAMED BUNS! Filled with umpteen of different filler. Delicious healthy meal not only for body but also for soul. Additional yummy are roastered chestnuts, found on every corner in circular roaster and bagging up straigh into people hands. Nutty, slightly sweet, soft taste. In conclusion- Yokohama land of pleasure for palate:)

KAMAKURA

Kamakura- at the top of the Miura peninsula, on the Pacific coast side of Japan. Capital of Japan during the Kamakura shogunate, from 1185 to 1333. 4th largest city in the world in 1250. Only about an hour and a half southwest of Tokyo along the coast, but it's a wonderfully different world. Filled with 65 beautiful temples and shrines, gardens- remains an important center for Zen. The main attraction- Giant Buddha, Daibutsu. The biggest and most awesomeness in all the land, the land being Japan.

Wagashi- experience a taste of Japan:)

"..Give a bit of hmm to me, and I'll give a bit of hmm to you.." Wagashi..traditional Japanese confections- an art form- essence of Japanese culture. Much more than just the sense of taste. Invitation to indulge all five senses:
* Appearance (shapes, colors and designs inspired by Japanese literature, paintings and textiles- evocative images from nature- feast for the eyes!);
* Taste (a primary sense made from various beans & grains- traditional, healthy, rich in fiber- distinctive flavors of vegetable-based natural ingredients);
* Texture (softness, moistness, crispness- reveal the freshness, quality and uniqueness of ingredients);
* Scent (delicate fragrances, pleasure of the sweets without overwhelming);
* Sound (hearing the lyrical Japanese names of the different varieties spoken from classical prose or poetry)

Extensive world of wagashi...for me extremely best: MOCHI!!! (Japanese rice cake made of glutinous rice pounded into paste and molded into shape) So many varieties..Daifuku- soft round mochi stuffed with sweet filling, such as sweetened red bean paste (an) or white bean paste (shiro an). Kusa mochi- green variety of mochi flavored with yomogi (mugwort). Mochi ice cream- small balls of ice cream wrapped inside a mochi. And from now my officially beloved sweat- Ichigo daifuku- version containing a whole strawberry inside. And then Namagashi- beautifully crafted seasonal cakes made fresh daily. Yokan- thick jellied sweet made of azuki bean paste, kanten and sugar. Monaka- sweets made of azuki bean filling sandwiched between two thin crisp wafers made from sticky-rice. Manju- steamed bun filled with bean paste. Amanatto- candied beans, dry sweets. And finally Castella or Kasutera- sponge cake made of sugar, flour, eggs, and starch syrup.. Mniaaaaaaaaammmm:) I'm real expert and connoisseur of japanese sweats;P
(translation my favourite Mochi...:) to takie miękkie kulki, zazwyczaj słodkie, zrobione z ryżu, ktory najpierw zostaje podgotowany na parze, a kiedy osiągnie odpowiednią miękkość, wrzuca się go do drewnianej misy. Mniaaaaamm:)
